Microsoft Edge Introduced its Built-in VPN in the Canary Channel

Microsoft started testing its recently seen built-in VPN feature for the Edge browser, which is now available for select Insiders on the Canary channel.

Microsoft recently became the world’s second most popular desktop browser, with 10.07% of the desktop browser market capitalization worldwide until April 2022.

As recently spotted on the Microsoft website’s support page that detailed the “Microsoft Edge Secure Network” feature by Cloudflare, which provides data encryption and prevents online tracking. It sounds very similar to a VPN service.

Microsoft Edge’s Secure Network Service Available for Testers

As we all know, there are also some other browsers that offer VPN services, but this “Secure Network” for Edge users is not for just bypassing geo-restrictions, according to Microsoft described its functionality.

According to Microsoft’s blog, It partnered with Cloudflare to help confirm that you can connect to the Secure Network through service if VPNs are allowed in your region. Soon, it will be introduced to Microsoft Edge.

When you enable this Secure Network, your IP address is hidden so that no one can see your actual location. All traffic is directed through one of Cloudflare’s servers to protect your exactness.

You can’t say it completely VPN because you can’t switch your location to somewhere other. After all, when you browse the web, you will be connected to the Cloudflare data center, which means the websites and experiences you are still seeing is of your region, but your location and IP will be hidden.

There will be 1GB monthly of free bandwidth for the Secure Network feature, and it restarts every month. So it can only stop collecting your browsing data by your internet service provider.

Also, Microsoft assures that diagnostic data related to the service is only kept for 25 hours. No personally identifiable information is sent over the network, like details about which websites you visit and preclude your IP address online entities.

Now, it is in the testing phase for developers; you can check it on the Microsoft Edge Canary version’s latest build, but it will soon unveil to the stable Edge browser too.
