Microsoft’s Bing search engine has achieved a remarkable milestone as it has surpassed 100 million daily active users for the first time in decades.
And Microsoft was able to achieve this milestone because of its newly launched chat feature known as Bing Chat, which is powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology.
Bing Search Gains Daily Active Users After New Chat Feature’s Launch
Last month, Microsoft released a new version of the Bing search engine that had a new AI-powered chat feature which gained so much popularity around the globe because it was promoted as an advanced version of ChatGPT.
Bing was never that popular before introducing this new way to enhance the search experience, even though it holds the second position in the search engine market in the world.
And now, the company’s officials released a report that notes their first month’s progress after releasing this new Bing.
Firstly, they revealed about crossing the barrier of 100 million daily active users even though they haven’t made this chat feature widely available. At the same time, Google has more than 1 billion daily active users.
The Bing Chat is currently in its preview phase as new users have to join the waitlist to use it, and around a third of daily Bing Chat users are new users to Bing.
Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing, expressed that “We’re seeing, on average, roughly three chats per session with more than 45 million total chats since the preview began.”
Microsoft Edge is also one of the reasons behind this Bing users boost. Last year, the Microsoft Edge browser crossed Apple’s Safari browser regarding users and became the second most popular browser.
As we all know, it comes with Windows 11 as the default browser, and Bing is set as its default search engine. Even if you replace it with Google, some features will still force you to use Bing, such as a new tab.
