JioGlass Specifications

Jio Glass

JioGlass is a smart wearable device developed by India-based deep tech start-up Tesseract, which was acquired by Reliance Industries in 2019. These glasses have a sleek metallic frame and two lenses. It comes with dual full-HD displays that offer a 40-degree field-of-view (FOV).

These advanced displays can expand users’ phone screen to a massive 100-inch display, creating a virtual display that offers an immersive viewing experience for their favorite TV shows, movies, web series, live sports, and more.

Each eye has an FHD (1920 x 1080) display and supports low blue light emissions certified by TÜV Rheinland, which helps reduce eye strain during prolonged usage.

Further, JioGlass comes equipped with a detachable USB-C 1.5 meter cable that can be connected to a smartphone, laptop, gaming console, or other devices with a Type-C display output to view content from the devices on a virtual screen. The USB-C port also doubles as a power source for the glasses.

When plugged into JioGlass, smartphones can double up as virtual controllers. These AR/VR glasses have built-in dual stereo speakers that provide a rich spatial audio experience and an integrated microphone for voice calls. It measures 174 x 155 x 38mm and weighs 69 grams (without cable and visor).

The lightweight device, which has a proximity sensor and a 9-axis IMU (inertial measurement unit) sensor, is powered by an unspecified processor. It boasts a 5-second boot-up time and a 1-second resume time.

These smart wearable glasses are equipped with a 4,000mAh battery, which offers up to 4 hours of uninterrupted run time in 3D mode. It also has a trackpad that allows users to control volume and brightness by swiping the glasses.

According to the Tesseract website, Reliance’s AR glasses can accommodate magnetic prescription lenses for those with prescription eyewear. The lenses must be fitted by an optician. The device also includes inserts to hold the glasses in place.

The company claims it will provide an immersive “gaming and learning experience” with an extensive set of educational apps through its dedicated app store called JioImmerse XR store. These can help students learn science in 3D mode.

“Our extensive collection of educational apps on JioImmerse spans across Science and Mathematics to English and beyond, all presented in a fully interactive format that is suitable for learners of all ages,” Jio states on its website.

JioGlass Pricing & Availability

Currently, there is no information on the pricing and availability of the JioGlasses, and it is listed as ‘coming soon’ on the company’s website. It could be available in the coming months.

JioGlass includes a USB Type-C port, which ensures connectivity to smartphones running on iOS or Android with DisplayPort (DP) support or to a Windows or Mac computer.
