Apple reportedly plans to implement OLED panels instead of LCD panels in its upcoming fourth-generation iPhone SE models, and the surprising part is that these panels will be delivered by Chinese display supplier BOE.
In the previous iPhone SE models, Apple used LCD screens from JDI (Japan Display Company), and now, it is bringing OLED display panels, which will be a significant change for the series, so let’s begin the discussion below.
Apple’s iPhone SE 4 OLED Panel: All Details
BOE (Beijing Oriental Electronics) was Apple’s major display supplier for multiple iPhone series and even supplied display panels for iPhone 14 Pro but Apple declined supply for the iPhone 15 and the OLED iPad.
Because of some quality issues faced by Apple after the launch of the iPhone 14 and a report has already revealed that Samsung Display and LG Display are going to supply display panels for iPhone 15 and iPad.
But as we all know, the iPhone SE series is not the top tier of the iPhone series, so the company would use BOE’s display panel, but that doesn’t mean BOE’s display is not good.
It will definitely be good as the supplier makes panels for Pro models, but it costs less than the displays of the Pro models, which will help the company to lower its production costs and offer an OLED iPhone as an affordable option.
However, OLED panels are a little expensive but offer various features such as better contrast, color accuracy, and power efficiency than LCD panels, and they also enable thinner & lighter designs.
The supplier company will deliver 6.1-inch OLED panels for this iPhone SE 4, which is expected to launch in early 2024. And 20 million units are expected for the first year in the market.
The noteworthy point is that this is the first iPhone model from the iPhone SE series. The phone is expected to have similar features to iPhone 14 in terms of components and design.
